The place you go to buy the ceramics/pottery for your daily use:
Daily useable ceramics can be bought at supermarkets,
department stores and ceramics shops in Japan. If you wish to
buy them at reasonable price, you should go to supermarkets.
For instance, Peacock at Ebisu(a supermarket) sell ceramics &
pottery on the second floor. Cceramics /pottery being sold at
department stores and ceramics shops are expensive than those
of supermarkets. But they provide discount sales once or twice a
year. Those are good occasions to buy the high quality ceramics and
potteriy. Of course, supermarkets have discount sales as well.
Don't miss it. Also, generally, supermarkets have a small section
displaying the discounted ceramics/pottery all the time.
Historically speaking, ceramics has been sold at Setomonoten.
In Japanese, Setomonoten means ceramics shop.
Recently, the number of Setomonoten has been declining as the
supermarkets sell economy ceramics. But you can see
Setomonoten in the shopping streets. They sell ceramics,
glassware, chopsticks, and other pottery products.
If you have a keen interest in ceramics and kitchen utensils, you
may visit " Kappa-Bashi"street where you can see many wholesale
stores. You can get there by taking Ginza Subway Line and get off
at Tawaramachi Station. It is on the way to Asakusa.
