Tips for Shopping at Supermarkets in Japan

Supermarkets are open 10-11 am in the morning and closing time vary by shop,
at 8 pm-11 pm. Some supermarkets open 24 hours.

Usually, Japanese supermarkets are selling the following items.

Vegetables, fruits, meats, milk , soft drinks, bread, eggs, frozen products,
ice cream, canned foods, chocolate and other confectionary, ham and
sausages, rice, seasonings, kitchen utensils and materials, detergents,
processed foods, fishes and selfish, alcoholic drinks, stationery, cooked foods

Large sized supermarkets handle clothes, gardening tools/materials,
and electric and electronic appliances/goods.

Supermarkets advertise the discounted items by using leaflet and it is enclosed
into the newspaper being delivered to home or you can get it at the supermarket.
Before shopping, make sure the discounted items on the day to save your money.
The leaflet shows the prices with pictures they sell, so you can see them
even the leaflet is written in Japanese.

Almost all supermarkets in Japan accept credit cards. When you need a receipt,
ask it at the casher, by saying " Riyou-shusho Onegai-shimasu
"(May I have a receipt?).
